Chapter 143 Fireworks of Yongzhou
Chapter 143 Fireworks of Yongzhou
"Your Highness, our people have found out," Xia Qi said slowly. "It was Prince Jing who was behind it."
Pei Shangdao lowered his head and sniffed the scent of rouge on his body. His expression darkened slightly, and he said disdainfully, "Just as I thought."
He knew better than anyone that Gu Yuan wanted Gu Liang dead.
However, he also wanted more than just his life.
"The Prince of Liang and his wife will leave the capital in three days," Xia Qi added.
"How are things going with the people over there?"
“Your Highness,” Xia Qi said respectfully, “Mo Yundu has always been resentful about the fact that the Prince of Liang caused him to lose an eye, and he is also obsessed with why Your Highness will not go back.”
Pei Shangdao smiled slightly, "He's unlikely to amount to much. Tell him not to act impulsively and to be mindful of his actions."
"Also, leave them alive, go down."
Xia Qi acknowledged and withdrew.

On the vast, flat plain, the bright moon strode swiftly towards them.
He approached the carriage of the Prince of Liang's residence and announced loudly, "Your Highness, we are only half a mile from Jizhou. We can rest in Jizhou tonight and arrive tomorrow."
Jiang Zhi lifted the carriage curtain and saw a majestic city standing in the distance.
A familiar feeling washed over me.
“The city walls here are eight or nine parts similar to those in Liangzhou,” Jiang Zhi said.
The city walls of Liangzhou also have pavilions, all with dark blue roof tiles and high eaves, giving them a spacious feel compared to the capital.
Jiang Zhi smiled and turned to look at Gu Liang, "Your Highness, have you ever been to Liangzhou?"
"What's wrong?" Gu Liang looked at Jiang Zhi, "Are you feeling sentimental because of the scenery?"
The city walls here are so similar to those in Liangzhou that even he was moved. But it's strange that a little girl alone in a foreign land shouldn't want to escape or stop talking about it.
Why is she still so curious?
“Hmm.” Jiang Zhi looked away. “Rather than saying I was moved by the scenery, it’s more like I wanted to find some memories of where I should have been.”
“Even though he trapped me during my youth, that memory is important to me, and that person is important to me.”
Gu Liang was taken aback.
Her lost memories? Did she suffer from amnesia?
So she doesn't remember what happened between them?
Gu Liang felt a mix of emotions, unable to decide whether she should be happy or sad.
He always thought it was just wishful thinking on his part.
Gu Liang swallowed hard. "Do you need my help?"
"Your Highness," Jiang Zhi approached him, "if we find it, is it mine or yours?"
He certainly wanted to say they belonged to them.
Gu Liang thought to herself, if you don't give hope, you won't be disappointed.
He looked at her again, his eyes shimmering with tiny sparkles.
Some words are easy to keep in your heart, but incredibly difficult to say aloud.
He pursed his thin lips.
"Whose is it?" Jiang Zhi looked at him, waiting for him.
She knew that she was waiting for more than just those words.
"Your Highness, I want to be with you forever."
Her voice was carried on the breeze, even more comforting than the breeze itself.
Gu Liang blinked and said, "I'm willing to do anything you want."
What a coward.
He had tried his best; this was the most empty promise he could make.
Jiang Zhi nodded, feeling somewhat displeased.
She was confused. She could clearly sense that he liked her, but why did he keep backing away after she pointed it out?
Her eyes curved slightly. "Your Highness."
Jiang Zhi paused deliberately, waiting for Gu Liang's reaction.
"Ok?"
"Thank you."
This time, her thank you was different from usual; it was as if she knew something.
Before he could speak, Jiang Zhi interrupted him, "So, how should we arrange our lodgings for tonight?"
“Xingluo is from Jizhou, so let’s leave our lodgings to him tonight,” Gu Liang replied.
Hearing this from outside the curtain, Xingluo, with his keen ears, immediately patted his chest and said, "Leave it to me!"
When evening came, the group arrived at the inn and were dazzled by the lights of the street.
"Is Jizhou so lively today?" Jiang Zhi asked.
Before Gu Liang could answer, Xing Luo said, "There's a lantern festival in the city tonight."
He led Jiang Zhi and the others to the tallest restaurant in the city. "Your Highness, the Princess should sit here. From here, you can see the most lanterns."
The two sat down by the window and looked out, taking in most of the city of Jizhou.
The lights flickered everywhere, creating a dazzling and breathtaking scene.
"Want to go down and take a look?" Gu Liang knew she was curious.
Before Jiang Zhi could answer, she was led to the riverside street.
Gu Liang took out a dry tinderbox from his pocket, glanced back at Jiang Zhi, and said, "You must watch the fireworks tonight carefully. This is the last one I can watch with you."
Having said that, he raised his arm, the wind whipped his sleeves, and threw the tinder onto the river.
A faint light flickered on the river's surface, leaving onlookers somewhat stunned. The fire, thrown into the water, had not yet gone out—something unheard of before.
Immediately afterwards, the flashing flames suddenly turned into a raging fire.
Centered on the tinderbox, the flames spread wildly outwards, aided by the river breeze, making the scene on the river resemble blooming lotus flowers dyed by the morning glow.
Jiang Zhi was stunned.
Gu Liang wanted her reaction at this moment. He wanted her to remember this moment forever. He couldn't accompany her to set off fireworks in the future, so he would let fireworks explode on the river to make her happy.
At least this way, when people talk about it, he won't be considered an incompetent husband.
