Chapter 7 Why Doesn't She Come Watch Me Play Basketball?
"Why does it take her so long to buy water?" Yan Ze looked towards the back door of the classroom for the thirty-second time, twirled the basketball, and was eager to go play basketball.
Chi Yan rested his chin on one hand, glanced at him indifferently, and said, "Maybe he's lost."
“Oh yeah, she’s a transfer student.” Yan Ze recalled, “This morning I saw her arrive in the Jiang family’s car at the school gate. As soon as Jiang Tianyao got out of the car, she ran off with her friends, leaving her alone at the school gate. I didn’t see her running over until it was almost time for class. I guess she got lost at school and spent a long time looking for her classroom.”
Once he started talking, Yan Ze wouldn't stop: "Gu Chenyi just said that she bullied Jiang Tianyao, but I think it's Jiang Tianyao who bullied her."
"At noon, Jiang Tianyao came over with her group of girlfriends, making a big fuss about her adopted daughter status, acting as if she was so noble, how good her Jiang family was, and how they were giving her charity and pity."
"Now that you mention it, Brother Chi, your deskmate is really having a tough time." Yan Ze glanced at Shi Sui's desk, where a notebook was open with neat and tidy handwriting.
Yan Ze said, "I think your deskmate really did come to our class, but one after another they came to cause trouble for her. If it were me, Gu Chenyi's slap would be considered mild."
Chi Yan pictured the girl's trembling hands, on the verge of tears.
Yet this delicate young girl, faced with Gu Chenyi's humiliation, did not hesitate to slap him.
"Let's go check on Gu Chenyi after school." Chi Yan glanced at the back door of the classroom and asked, "Yan Ze, didn't you just say she came for me? Why are you saying now that she came for studying?"
“Your studies don’t conflict with your studies.” Yan Ze raised his chin slightly and pointed towards the door. “Look how happy she is after buying water. Her eyes are practically crescent moons.”
In Chi Yan's view, the girl was bathed in the sunset, her clear eyes curved, and the corners of her mouth were raised in a beautiful arc. She held a water bottle in her hand and her steps were light and agile.
The moment their eyes met, her smile seemed even sweeter.
Yan Ze's voice was neither too loud nor too soft: "Brother Chi, if she can buy you a bottle of water, she'll probably be happy for a whole day."
As soon as she returned to the classroom, she saw her deskmate looking at her. He must be very thirsty and waiting for her water. So Shi Sui smiled at him apologetically and said, "I'm sorry, it's my first day of school here and I don't know the way very well yet."
She handed him the water with both hands and thoughtfully unscrewed the bottle cap.
Chi Yan nodded, feigning aloofness, drank some water, and then patted Yan Ze on the shoulder: "Let's go play ball."
Yan Ze made two "oh" sounds, then quickly caught up with Chi Yan with the ball. He subconsciously glanced back at the classroom and whispered, "Brother Chi, your deskmate is still watching you."
"Why do you talk so much nonsense?" Chi Yan glanced at him irritably, suppressing the smile on her lips.
Yan Ze stopped talking because all the girls in the class had come out. He was very interested in the girls' gossip and wanted to eavesdrop quietly.
Chi Yan, as if possessed, turned around and glanced back one last time.
The girl was sitting upright in her seat, tilting her head as if deep in thought.
So why hasn't she caught up with me to watch me play ball yet?
Upon hearing that Chi Yan was going to play basketball, the girls in the classroom unanimously said they wanted to go to the court to watch the game, and the boys also wanted to play. Within minutes, the classroom was almost empty.
Shi Sui was planning out Mission 2.
Task 2 earns much more than Task 1, which makes Shi Sui feel that the system is very humane and not stingy. One subject earns 100 a day. She chose science in the second semester of her first year of high school, and there were six subjects in total, so she earned 600.
However, the college entrance examination policy here seems to be different from that in the Southwest. It doesn't distinguish between arts and sciences; instead, it's become subject selection.
Shi Sui still doesn't understand how subject selection works.
She needs to ask someone, but hasn't decided who yet, ruling out Jiang Tianyao first.
Memorizing English words, a self-study period quickly passed. Two minutes before the school bell rang, Shi Sui finished packing her schoolbag and realized that her deskmate and the student in front of her had not returned yet, so she left the classroom as the bell rang.
The international class is on a high floor, far from the school gate, so we waited until Shi Sui arrived at the school gate.
Just then, Jiang Tianyao got into the Jiang family's Bentley, which quickly became a black shadow and disappeared on the road.
Shi Sui realized that her gaze had met Jiang Tianyao's, and Jiang Tianyao had seen her.
So you saw her and then deliberately let the driver drive away, right?
This is really infuriating.
Shi Sui bit her lip. She felt a little sad that she had been abandoned by her family in their car on the first day of school.
Forget it, she shouldn't have any expectations for that home. It's the place that drove her out of her dreams and ultimately plunged her into hell. She has to leave it sooner or later.
[Host, it's time to buy some study guides.] The system pointed her in the right direction. [I found a bookstore with a 30% discount for you. It's near the school, just turn right and keep walking for about 3 kilometers. The storefront is red.]
Shi Sui perked up; this was a great opportunity to make a kickback.
but--
Is 3 kilometers considered nearby?
[It's on the same street as the lottery shop, and it's nearby.]
Shi Sui understood; the system meant that she should go to the lottery shop to withdraw money through legitimate means, and then she could go to the bookstore to buy more study guides.
As expected of a learning system, it forces her to study like crazy.
Despite her complaints, Shi Sui was determined to learn as hard as she could, since this was a system for learning how to get rich quickly, although she was still skeptical about the "get rich quick" aspect.
Shi Sui didn't want to walk 3 kilometers, so she circled around the school gate. Finally, her efforts paid off, and she found an unlocked shared bicycle.
Although she knew it was wrong to take advantage of others for free, she was really sorry, she only had cash and no money for mobile payment.
After apologizing three times to the shared bicycle, Shi Sui took a long stride, gripped the handlebars tightly, and set off.
When Chi Yan returned to the classroom, she found that her deskmate's desk was empty and the schoolbag hanging on the chair was gone.
Did you just leave without saying goodbye?
"Brother Chi, Gu Chenyi really hasn't changed at all. His legs still shake when he fights. It's hilarious." Yan Ze followed behind him unhurriedly, his gaze sweeping over the empty table. He was surprised. "Hey? The bell just rang. Your deskmate is pretty eager to leave school."
Yan Ze added, "I was originally going to tell her that we helped her beat up Gu Chenyi."
"I just don't like that guy, it has nothing to do with her."
"Oh, yes, yes, that guy Gu Chenyi dared to cause trouble in the international class, he really should be taught a lesson." Yan Ze was still lost in thought. "Never mind, never mind, I won't say anything more, otherwise your deskmate will love you to death."
Chi Yan pursed his lips, hiding the smile at the corner of his mouth, picked up his schoolbag with one hand, casually slung it over his shoulder, and said, "Stop talking so much nonsense, I'm leaving."
Yan Ze immediately slung his backpack over his shoulder, not even having time to zip it up, and followed Chi Yan.
Upon arriving at the school gate, I could see my family's car in the distance, as well as across the street—
"Hey, isn't that your deskmate?" Yan Ze pointed. "Didn't the Jiang family send anyone to pick her up? Why is she riding her bicycle home by herself? Look at that tire, is it about to go flat?"
Yan Ze shook his head, his sympathetic lips babbling, "That's terrible. He's relying on this beat-up bicycle to get home. I don't even know if he'll be able to get home before dark."
Even without Yan Ze saying it, Chi Yan discovered Shi Sui earlier than he did.
The girl pushed her bicycle, her head slightly lowered, her obedient hair hanging down, revealing only half of her face. Her expression was unclear, but one could sense that she was heartbroken.
After pushing the bicycle out of the parking area, she nimbly got on and pedaled furiously, as if venting all her sadness.
Chi Yan didn't say anything, he just watched her slender figure disappear into the street.
Shi Sui finally understood why the bicycle wasn't locked.
Good heavens, the tire was flat.
She pedaled her bicycle with all her might, the system guiding her in her mind: [Turn left at the traffic light, yes, yes, right, right, this alley on the right...]
Turning left and then right again... well, Shi Sui is too exhausted to complain.
ten minutes later.
Before them lay a deep, secluded alley. Shi Sui couldn't help but wonder: "[System, are you sure your navigation route is correct?]"
one second.
two seconds.
...five seconds.
[I sensed it, System, you're hesitating.] Shi Sui rolled her eyes and was about to turn around.
Suddenly, a sound came from the alley.
