Chapter 427 Choosing Whom to Believe
Chapter 427 Choosing Whom to Believe
But it wasn't until bedtime that the little girl suddenly spoke up: "Mommy, that professor, his ideas are so noisy."
Aria stopped making the bed. "What do you mean, baby?"
“It’s like many voices are talking at the same time,” Lila said, frowning as she tried to explain. “He’s thinking about ‘samples’ and ‘tests,’ and also about a picture of you and Maxi.”
Arya's blood turned cold instantly.
That's impossible.
They have no official record in any of the Empire's systems, unless...
"Sleep well, little star." She kissed her daughter's forehead. "Everything will be alright tomorrow."
Arya knew it wouldn't happen.
After the children fell asleep, she quietly took out a pulse pistol and a scanner.
If Dallax really recognizes them, this place will no longer be safe.
She needed information; she needed to know what secrets Green Star was hiding.
At midnight, Arya put on a dark coat, took her tools, and quietly went out.
The nearest regulating tower is two kilometers to the northwest, and in the moonlight it looks like a silver finger pointing to the starry sky.
The base of the tower is surrounded by a metal fence, but there are no obvious guards.
Arya inspected the fence with an engineering scanner and discovered that it was equipped with a bio-electric alarm system—standard Imperial military specifications.
Why would an agricultural colony need this level of security?
She carefully navigated around the system and found the access point.
The lock was genetically engineered, but it was an outdated model, and she cracked it in ten minutes using her personal tools.
The tower's interior was surprisingly simple—a thick energy pillar in the center, surrounded by control terminals.
Aria pulled up the system log, her brows furrowing deeper and deeper.
These devices do indeed regulate the climate, but their primary function appears to be some kind of large-scale genetic scanning.
Even more disturbing is that the system has a sub-project called "Phoenix" that specifically marks carriers of certain gene sequences.
As she attempted to access deeper files, the system suddenly locked, and a calm male voice came from behind her: "I knew you'd come, Aria Kos. Or rather, Aria Weiss?"
Arya turned around instantly, pointing her pulse pistol at the source of the sound.
Professor Dallax stood in the doorway, his white robes gleaming with an eerie blue light under the moonlight.
“Don’t be nervous.” He raised his hands to indicate he was unarmed. “I’m not your enemy. In fact, I’ve been waiting for you and those two children.”
"Who are you?" Aria kept her gun steady. "The Royal Guard? The Second Prince's or the Second Prince's consort's men?"
Darax laughed: "None of that. I'm a scientist, only interested in knowledge."
He walked to the control panel, tapped a few buttons, and a set of genetic maps appeared on the holographic screen. "Do you recognize this?"
Arya's breathing stopped; it was Leon's genetic sequence, marked "Prototype Alpha".
“Five years ago, the Imperial Academy of Sciences launched Project Phoenix, aimed at replicating the Force genes of the Augustus royal family,” Darax’s voice explained as if describing a routine scientific experiment. “We built twelve secret bases, and Green Star was the seventh.”
"You're making clones?" Arya's stomach churned.
“Cloning? Too primitive.” Darax shook his head. “We’re trying to create a better version. But all the experiments failed until your child appeared.”
He switched the screen to show Maxi and Lila's genetic scans—clearly collected secretly at the school today.
“Perfect genetic recombination, a miracle of nature.” A fanatical fire blazed in Darax’s eyes. “You don’t know their value, Arya. They are the keys that can unlock the next door to human evolution.”
Arya's finger was on the trigger: "Stay away from my child."
"Do you think you can escape forever?" Darax suddenly became stern. "The Academy has locked onto this system. Only I can protect you."
Why are you helping us?
Darax's expression became complicated: "Because Leon was once my student. Because I owe him."
He handed over a data chip. "Here's everything you need to know. Before dawn tomorrow, there's a path in the eastern forest that leads to an abandoned mine; there's a spaceship there."
Aria didn't accept the chip: "What if I refuse?"
“Then within three days, the Royal Navy will arrive on Green Shade Star.” Darax’s voice suddenly became weary. “The chip contains a message Leon left for you. He has never stopped searching for you.”
Aria finally took the chip, but the gun remained pointed at her: "One last question—what is the real purpose of those regulating towers?"
Darax adjusted his glasses: "The gene activation network. For the past five years, the entire planet Greenwood has been a giant petri dish."
A bitter smile played on his lips. "Ironically, the only successful specimen was conceived naturally."
Back at the farmhouse, Arya inserted the chip, and Leon's image appeared in the holographic projection.
He looked much more haggard than in the news, with deep shadows under his eyes.
“Arya, if you see this,” Leon’s voice was hoarse in the video, “I know you’re on the run, I know you’re protecting our children. Please believe me, I’ve never given up looking for you.”
He reached out as if to touch the camera. "Dalax is the only teacher I trust. He will lead you to safety. I'll wait for the day we can be together again."
The projection disappeared.
Arya sat in the darkness, her mind in turmoil.
For six years, she believed that Leon either didn't know about the children's existence or was involved in the hunt.
But now...
Outside the window, the first rays of dawn were already appearing.
Should they flee again, or risk trusting Darax and Leon?
The children's abilities are awakening, and she can no longer handle all of this alone.
As Maxi and Lila rubbed their eyes and walked into the kitchen, Aria had already made her decision.
“We’re not going to school today.” She placed breakfast on the table, her voice calm. “Mom is taking you to see someone, possibly sent by your father.”
Maxi's eyes immediately lit up with a blue light: "I've dreamt about this! A silver spaceship and the light in the forest!"
Lila tilted her head and said, "Mommy, you're both scared and excited. It feels so strange."
Arya took a deep breath and hugged the two children.
Just as she was about to take the child to find Dalac, Lin Liuyi appeared.
"who are you?"
Lin Liuyi was surprised that this reader was quite wary. She nodded to herself, "That's right, that's how you should react when you see a stranger."
However, she still explained in a kind and gentle manner, which delighted Aria.
There is another world!
If she could take her child to another world, would she be able to live a peaceful life?
That's what she thought, and that's why she asked the question.
Unfortunately, Lin Liuyi told her regretfully that this was impossible.
