Chapter 10 Bandaging
Chapter 10 Bandaging
Li Changchun was very interested to see Xu Xiaoxiao carefully treating his wounds. Even though she was covered in blood and flesh, she didn't have any adverse reactions, which showed that his little apprentice had good mental qualities and was a promising talent.
It turns out the meat being scraped wasn't his; he didn't even flinch, and had the leisure to observe his apprentice's expression and emotions.
He really wasn't afraid of pain. After all, he had suffered all kinds of injuries on his cultivation journey. This injury was just a superficial wound. In the cultivation world, he could just adjust his breathing and it would be fine. There was no need to go through all this trouble and scrape off flesh and bones to fully heal.
Three hours later, Xu Xiaoxiao finally scraped away the dead flesh from the wound, applied the wound medicine, and bandaged it up before letting out a long sigh of relief.
"Master, how are you feeling now?"
"Xiaoxiao's skills are quite good. Look how well she bandaged my wound," Li Changchun patted his legs and hands to show his satisfaction.
The bandage must have bad eyesight; it's still not bad even though it's crooked and messy.
"Master, let's eat first, we can talk about the rest later."
Xu Xiaoxiao went to the kitchen and brought up the prepared food, one meat dish and one vegetable dish. Her cooking skills were so-so that it was only passable.
“Okay, Master is hungry too.” Li Changchun pondered how to explain to Xu Xiaoxiao that he was looking for medicine.
Neither of them ate a single word during the meal. After Xu Xiaoxiao finished cleaning up, she went to the kitchen to wash her hands, dried them, and returned to the living room. To accommodate Li Changchun, she even brought a stool to sit in front of him.
"Master, shouldn't you explain to me what's going on?" Xu Xiaoxiao sat on the stool and looked at her master seriously.
Seeing his apprentice so serious, Li Changchun felt guilty and adjusted his posture to try and make himself look more serious.
"Well, Xiaoxiao, it's a long story."
Li Changchun took a sip of the water beside him.
"Then please get to the point. This matter needs to be clarified today. I don't want to see you like this again."
Now, just thinking about her master collapsing in the snow makes her heart race and her whole body go cold. She vows to go with him next time no matter what.
"Your master has come down from the cultivation world to the mortal realm this time to find a medicinal herb called Earth Spirit. According to ancient records, this herb once appeared in the mortal realm. It prefers water and is cold in nature. It is a spiritual herb, and can be found by chance, depending entirely on fate."
Li Changchun peered through the door into the distance. He had been in the mortal realm for three years and had searched every place he could find, but without any news. Jicheng was the northernmost and last place. Fortunately, he had found a trace of a goblin during his trip to the snow mountain.
"Master, is this herb very important to you?" Xu Xiaoxiao pondered, resting her chin on her hand. How rare must this herb be if it doesn't even exist in the cultivation world?
"Yes, this herb is the most important medicine to cure your senior brother's violent temper."
"What does this medicine look like? Does it have any special characteristics?" It turned out it was for her two senior brothers. Even though they hadn't met, she hoped that both of her senior brothers would be safe and healthy.
"The gnome plant is crystal clear, like an ice sculpture or jade carving. There seems to be a flowing spiritual energy in its veins. Its leaves are a deep blue color, with starlight shimmering at the edges. Each leaf seems to contain a small world. The flowers are shaped like bells, but they do not make a sound. There is a mist rising from the stamens. Its roots are even more peculiar. They go deep into the spiritual veins underground to absorb the essence. There are even faint runes on the roots. The most magical thing about this medicinal essence is that it can suppress malevolent energy. Whether it is the inner malevolent energy of a cultivator who has gone astray from practicing demonic arts, or the external malevolent energy caused by the backlash of magic weapons or the invasion of evil spirits, as long as it is placed next to him, the peaceful energy released by the medicinal essence will seep in like a spring breeze melting snow, slowly dissolving and purifying the malevolent energy, making the cultivator's mind clear and returning to the righteous path of cultivation."
Li Changchun quickly explained the wonders of the goblins to his young apprentice.
"Don't be fooled by the fact that the mortal realm currently lacks spiritual energy; under the blessings of Heaven, rare herbs, extraordinary treasures, and capable individuals still emerge."
After listening to his master's explanation, he understood that no matter which world it is, there are rules in the universe, and different gifts will be given to the people there.
"Master, how did you get injured?" Master is usually very strong and can take on ten people at once without any problem. How did he get so badly injured this time?
"Sigh, this time it's also Master's fault for being careless. Here's what happened..."
The swirling snowflakes, like goose feathers, blanketed the frigid snow-capped mountains. Li Changchun, searching for the precious goblin herbs, ventured alone into this treacherous land. Just as he discovered traces of goblins in a secluded mountain hollow, a deep, resonant wolf howl shattered the silence. A gigantic snow wolf, its fur pure white as snow and its eyes a deep, icy blue, emerged from the surrounding snowdrifts, leading a pack of cubs. The snow wolf was agile and swift as lightning; with a few leaps, it closed the distance... Having closed the distance with Li Changchun, it leaped high into the air, its sharp claws flashing coldly in mid-air. Although Li Changchun was a cultivator, he was so focused on finding the goblin that he failed to notice the snow wolf's ambush in time, and his dodge was slightly slow. The snow wolf's sharp teeth bit down hard on his arm, and the powerful bite seemed to tear his arm apart. Li Changchun endured the pain and swung his sword to drive it away, but unexpectedly, another snow wolf pounced from the side and bit his leg. He struggled to break free, but was seriously injured in the process.
Li Changchun endured the excruciating pain in his arms and legs, tore off strips of cloth from his clothes, and hastily bandaged his wounds. Blood continued to seep through the cloth, staining it red. Leaning on his sword, he struggled to his feet, each step feeling as heavy as a thousand pounds. His injured leg trembled slightly as he left deep footprints in the thick snow.
A fierce wind howled, and heavy snow blinded his eyes. Relying on his memory and a faint sense of direction towards the extreme city, he stumbled along the rugged mountain road. The mountain path was steep, and he almost slipped and tumbled several times. He could only use his sword to stick his body into the snow to steady himself. When he came to a narrow mountain path with a bottomless abyss on one side, he carefully moved sideways. The wound on his arm broke open due to the exertion, and large beads of sweat mixed with blood rolled down his forehead.
As darkness fell and the cold washed over him like a tide, his body gradually went numb, and his steps became increasingly unsteady. But his inner conviction sustained him. Thinking of his young apprentice at home who needed his care, he took one step at a time until he finally saw the outline of Jicheng in his field of vision. With his last bit of strength, he dragged his exhausted and wounded body through the city gates of Jicheng. He fainted two alleys away from home, and what followed was what you see.
Li Changchun thought it was shameful that a cultivator at the late Nascent Soul stage could be reduced to the mortal realm and couldn't even handle a pack of snow wolves without any rank. So he was very reluctant to talk about this experience, and he only told it for the sake of his little disciple.
"Master, you're already amazing. To come back alive from a pack of wolves isn't something you can always be so lucky about. Master, please take me with you next time you go. I want to help too."
Xu Xiaoxiao tugged at her master's sleeve, as if to say, "If you don't agree, I'll cry right now."
Li Changchun's injuries will take at least a month and a half to fully recover. In addition, there are traces of goblins now, so there's no rush to find them immediately. It's not too late to wait until the snow stops before searching, by which time it will be spring.
"Alright, alright, I'll take you next time. But you need to practice your body-strengthening technique for a while, otherwise you won't even be able to climb the mountain."
Li Changchun was also afraid that she would really cry; girls are cuter when they smile.
