Chapter 176 Determination
Chapter 176 Determination
'interesting.'
Just as Morse knocked down the female archer, the battle between the mages also ended.
“This battle is pointless,” Serafina calmly announced, easily deflecting Irina’s fiery attack. She scrutinized Irina with a cold gaze, assessing the situation.
Things didn't go as I expected.
She immediately came to a conclusion.
Whoosh!
However, Irina had no intention of giving up. The flames in her eyes burned even more fiercely, still full of provocation. "No point? You intruded into my ranks, provoked us, and now you want to run away? We're not done yet."
call!
After saying that, she launched another attack, aimed directly at Serafina.
"Is it him?"
However, Serafina's words made them pause for a second.
"what?"
That brief second was enough for Serafina to understand what she was looking for.
'It really was him, how interesting…'
“Your reaction says it all,” Serafina said, a subtle hint of pleasure in her voice. She gracefully dodged the incoming flames, as composed as ever. “It seems things are going to get interesting from now on.”
However, Irina didn't seem to understand her words. "You vixen, just say what you mean."
"Hmm~ That depends on whether you understand what I'm saying." She turned around with a teasing smile.
"You!" Irina tried to attack again, but Serafina pulled a small spherical object out of her pocket.
“Here, this is the price for your victory.” She placed it on the ground. It was the device the academy used to record magical formulas; putting it down meant she was acknowledging defeat.
'What I know is more valuable than a bunch of points,' she thought to herself, her gaze sweeping over the other two members of Irina's team.
'Especially that girl… Sure enough, there was a reason the chairman tested her. That guy isn't simple either.'
Then, her attention naturally turned to the two unconscious students.
'Another bunch of useless trash.'
A slight smile appeared on her face, but her eyes turned cold when she looked at her team.
'Rubbish.'
With her team defeated, she realized she needed to make concessions. This wasn't because she was afraid of Irina, but because the addition of two other people could complicate matters.
Irina's burning gaze shifted from Serafina to the small ball on the ground. She hesitated, a sense of defeat still evident in her clenched fists. With a reluctant admission, she walked over and picked up the device.
“Fine,” Irina said softly, a hint of annoyance still lingering in her voice. She turned to look at Serafina, the tension between them still palpable. “That’s enough for now.”
“…” Serafina glanced at Irina and then nodded.
'She's changed.'
The Irina she knew wasn't the type to accept such an offer; she would pursue what she wanted to the very end, even if it meant sacrificing what she could have gained. That's why she was known in high society as the "Flame Witch," because she never feared any challenge.
But now her reaction seemed unusually rational and different. She passed Serafina's test, a change that caught Serafina's attention.
'I knew I should investigate him.'
Since Irina entered the academy, the only change in her life has been the ordinary boy who would otherwise have had no chance of getting close to her.
Like the key figures in the Irina Research Institute, Serafina has always been paying attention to the lives of these people.
Especially her rival, Irina. Most of the time, Serafina would get the news whenever Irina did something or made some changes.
After all, bribing Irina's former teammates to obtain information is not a difficult task.
This is the tactic employed by most heirs of high-ranking families, and information is of paramount importance to them.
From this information, she knew that the relationship between the two was far from ordinary.
As Serafina turned to leave, she glanced at the group one last time. The boy seemed to be looking at her too; their eyes met in mid-air.
Serafina's icy gaze locked onto Morse's purple eyes, then a faint smile appeared on her lips.
His aura wasn't strong; her characteristics indicated his overall parameters were relatively weak. Even so, she sensed something unfathomable, a rare occurrence, and whenever it happened, she knew this person must be very important.
'Maybe I should just take him away.'
In contrast to Irina's unconscious reaction, she imagined how Irina would feel if she did the same.
That would be fun.
She pondered, her curiosity about the seemingly ordinary boy growing stronger. He seemed to harbor many unknown secrets, and his role in changing Irina's behavior intrigued Serafina. She wanted to know how someone like him could influence a girl with such a strong will.
And so she left that place and went to the college building to see the principal.
However, she did not notice the pair of green eyes staring at her.
......
The classroom was filled with whispers of surprise and curiosity. Sylvie stood under the spotlight, her plea echoing in the air.
"Please teach me how to fight."
When our eyes met, I couldn't help but sigh. What bothered me wasn't her seeking combat training, but the attention she drew.
'This is really troublesome. First it was Serafina, and now it's her again.'
Every student in the classroom was focused on us. I kept a blank expression, wondering how things had come to this.
How could it have turned out like this?
Of course I know the reason; it was my own actions that brought Sylvie to me. Considering what I had said, she had clearly decided on her path. But what I said at the time wasn't exactly encouraging.
When I'm annoyed, I tend to speak harshly. I know this isn't a good habit, but habits aren't changed overnight. Especially what I said yesterday.
'Okay, maybe it's not so bad.'
I assumed Sylvie would seek out the instructors to learn combat skills, and the academy would surely grant her request. Even so, not everyone in the academy is trustworthy, especially the teaching staff.
'It wouldn't be good to refuse now.'
Amidst numerous curious gazes, Sylvie stood there resolutely, her face etched with determination. This was a stark contrast to when we first met her, when she was filled with resistance to battle.
I nodded, accepted Sylvie's request, and decided to take on this responsibility that seemed to have fallen on my shoulders unintentionally.
“Alright, I’ll teach you,” I said seriously. “But you need to understand, I won’t go easy on you. Can you accept that?”
If she comes to me to study, she must accept my teaching methods. That's my condition.
Sylvie responded with a determined look, a stark contrast to her initial hesitation when the topic of battle came up. "Yes, I will do everything in my power to become stronger."
We'll wait and see.
Seeing her expression was strange, because it was the first time I'd ever seen it. And she seemed very determined, which made me somewhat relieved.
"very good."
And so, the decision was made. Sylvie smiled happily, a genuine expression she had never shown before. "Thank you, Morse."
"..."
Looking at her smile, I was speechless for a moment. It made me wonder, 'Is this really something to be happy about?' But I knew that it must have taken a lot of courage for Sylvie to face her fear.
Sylvie returned to her seat, her classmates' eyes following her every move. As she sat down, I could feel a sharp gaze shooting at me from the side.
A pair of amber eyes locked onto me from the other end of the classroom. Irina looked somewhat displeased, but that wasn't anything new to me, so I just shrugged and focused on the lesson that was about to begin.
despair!despair!despair!
The classroom fell silent instantly, and all the students felt the presence of their stern professor.
Good afternoon, students.
Professor Eleanor's voice echoed in the silent classroom as she entered, carrying the spherical devices submitted by the students.
She methodically walked through rows of desks, returning the devices to their respective groups.
Each student's work was handled with care, and she nodded to each of them in approval.
“Now that you have completed the task of capturing and analyzing the mana formulas, it’s time to move on to the next step,” Eleanor began, her gaze sweeping over the focused faces. “You now need to write a detailed report on the mana formulas you encountered and captured in the forest.”
Eleanor placed the device on the podium, her hands behind her back. "Your report should include the composition of the mana formulas, their unique characteristics, and your capture strategy. Consider it a reflection on what you've learned in this practical exercise."
She paused, her stern gaze sharpening. "Now, I want to make one thing clear: the academy has meticulously documented the mana formulas submitted by each group. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited in the reports; each of you must provide an independent and honest record of your findings. Accurately analyzing and articulating your experiences is a crucial part of your growth as hunters."
Then, she slowly walked out of the classroom.
"Today's class will be used as report writing time, and you are free to leave. If you encounter any problems while writing your report, please contact me or the teaching assistant. Good luck."
And so, after the professor left, the students were left in the classroom.
