Chapter 76: Mutual Destruction
Chapter 76: Mutual Destruction
"Miss Lin? You've finally arrived! We have a lot of great items in our store recently, just waiting for you to choose from."
"Since the shopkeeper has said so, wouldn't it be a huge disservice to your kindness if I didn't take a piece of the jewel from you?"
The shopkeeper didn't say anything, but rubbed his hands together and led the person to the place that had been prepared beforehand.
But for some reason, Lin Rusi couldn't stand the items that were specially placed on the cabinet. She placed her hands on the table and tapped them with her neatly manicured nails.
The crisp sound made the shopkeeper swallow hard, nervously looking at the things he had prepared.
"These are nice, but they are too luxurious and not suitable for my age."
"I'm so sorry, Miss Lin, for not realizing how important this age is."
Upon hearing this, Lin Rusi remained silent, only watching as the other person carefully placed another brocade box on the table.
Noticing the shopkeeper's gentle movements, she immediately understood the value of the items and finally perked up.
Once the brocade box was fully opened, she smiled again and reached out to touch the jade plaque carved from mutton-fat white jade inside.
To everyone's surprise, the other hand was even faster, slamming the brocade box shut in one swift motion.
His rough manner made the shopkeeper gasp softly.
"Please be careful, young lady. Those jade pendants are extremely translucent. If you apply too much force, they can easily crack."
"Do you think I don't understand? Any one of my jade pieces could easily surpass all your collection."
The shopkeeper had heard that arrogant tone before and knew that even if that set of items was destroyed, it could never be recovered. He sighed helplessly and looked at Lin Rusi standing next to the counter.
"Miss Lin, why don't you try on a different outfit?"
"But I think that jade pendant was pretty good; I don't even look at the others."
Upon hearing this, Sun Huier let out another cold laugh, opened the box, and waved the piece in front of Lin Rusi.
It took him a while to pretend to praise the jade.
Thinking it was just showing off, Lin Rusi wasn't going to play childish games with that person. She calmly withdrew her gaze and prepared to leave.
But Sun Huier wasn't going to give her that chance and stepped forward to block her way.
"Haven't you seen me for a few days, Miss Lin?"
"The voice does sound somewhat familiar, but I just can't quite place it. Does Wanqi remember?"
Suddenly called by name, Wanqi, who was still observing her surroundings, turned her gaze back and carefully examined Sun Huier in front of her.
But in the end, following Lin Rusi's suggestion, he shook his head and obediently stepped aside to avoid the other party suddenly going berserk and hurting his master.
Fortunately, seeing so many people around, Sun Huier couldn't act in a way that would be unbecoming of a lady from a respectable family, so she could only make sarcastic remarks from the side.
"Miss Lin, you must have a bad memory. How could you forget me? Should I remind you?"
"That would be best, since I usually don't remember people who aren't important."
Upon hearing this, Sun Huier frowned, clearly wanting to say something more, but then her expression changed again when she met Lin Rusi's ambiguous smile.
Very well, since you dared to provoke her first, don't blame others for being impolite.
Thinking of this, Sun Huier became even more impolite and threw the jade directly into the shopkeeper's hand.
If he hadn't reacted quickly, that rare jade pendant would have fallen to the ground and shattered into pieces.
"I'll take this piece and that box as well. Just send them to the Sun residence, and someone will settle the bill for you."
"Yes."
Although the shopkeeper was dissatisfied, he had no intention of refusing business, but he paused slightly when he looked at Lin Rusi beside him.
Only after confirming that the other party didn't care did he breathe a sigh of relief and wrap it up completely.
"So it's Miss Sun? But I remember the last time I met you, you didn't look like this, and your voice wasn't so sharp. It was much softer. Could it be that I'm mistaken?"
This sentence constantly mocked Sun Huier's status as the second young lady, and even compared the two sisters.
Sun Huier became even more dissatisfied with the comparison and looked at the other party with a fierce gaze.
Lin Rusi didn't care about this reaction at all; in fact, she was quite casual about it, waving her hand and about to leave.
But Sun Huier, already enraged, wouldn't let her leave so easily, and instead shouted it out without any regard for the consequences.
"I wonder if Miss Lin Er still remembers what she did to Lin Ruqin before?"
"What does what I have to do with her, Miss Sun? Are you saying you've been keeping an eye on us sisters all this time?"
"What are you planning to do? Do you have ulterior motives?"
Upon hearing this, Sun Huier's expression changed repeatedly. She clearly wanted to say something more, but found herself unable to open her mouth and could only glare fiercely at Lin Rusi.
But what harm could that look possibly do to her?
Lin Rusi smiled gently and turned to leave, but then she heard the voice behind her.
"I pay attention to you sisters only because I feel sorry for Lin Ruqin having a younger sister like you."
"You know, you often rely on your favored mother to play tricks on Ruqin, and you even pushed her into the lake several times."
Upon hearing this, the crowd that had been watching nearby immediately perked up, straining their ears in an attempt to catch up on this juicy gossip.
But Lin Rusi wasn't about to let them get away with it, and let out a cold laugh.
"You say I bullied her, but there must be a reason. Tell me why I bullied her?"
"How dare you deny it! I saw those things with my own eyes, what evidence do I need?"
Upon hearing Sun Huier's words, Lin Rusi couldn't help but let out a soft laugh.
"Even without evidence, I can still make things up, like saying that you deliberately drugged someone out of jealousy of your elder sister in an attempt to take her place."
"Nonsense!"
Sun Huier's reaction was extreme, not at all like someone who was wronged and angry, but rather more like someone who felt guilty after being told that the truth had come true.
She was considered good by everyone present, but upon seeing the change in her at that moment, they couldn't help but frown.
But knowing that the matter was not confirmed, they could not get involved and stood silently to the side.
Lin Rusi, however, was not afraid at all. Instead, she continued as if joking, "Do you need evidence? I can show it to you."
"Impossible! You absolutely cannot have any evidence. This is all nonsense!"
"But I saw it with my own eyes, isn't that evidence?"
Unexpectedly, her words were thrown back at her, and Sun Huier's face turned extremely beautiful, changing colors constantly.
Seeing this, Lin Rusi smiled slightly and met his gaze with her deep eyes.
