Chapter 166 Beijing Research Institute (8)
"And then you came up here, and then you were attacked by zombies again?" Yang Xiao listened intently, as if he were listening to a novel, and couldn't wait to answer.
“Heh, you really can’t wait a moment.” Ji Lang chuckled and continued, “Yes, I didn’t encounter any zombies along the way with Lin Yun until we reached the 18th floor, but most of them were first or second generation zombies. They didn’t have any special abilities, at most they could just run faster, which is why we were able to successfully hide in this office.”
“You really know how to pick, choosing this room where we are,” Yang Xiao added.
"Actually, no. I thought since I didn't get what I wanted downstairs, I'd go check out the administration office. Maybe I could find something there," Ji Lang said.
“Then you’re in for a disappointment.” Yang Xiao shrugged. “We’ve searched every cabinet and drawer here, and there’s nothing there.”
"What about the computer?" Ji Lang pressed.
"I took the computer to the starship and had the system analyze it. The results are in. I was so focused on listening that I didn't even have time to look at them." As Lu Yuan spoke, he took out the high-tech tablet that he had shown to Lin Xiao earlier from his spatial storage.
"How is it? How is it?" Yang Xiao immediately got up from his chair, squeezed next to Lu Yuan, and peeked over.
"These computers are all administrative computers. They contain the report from the East China Space Research Institute that we've seen before, as well as project applications submitted to the state based on that report. However, the attachments are classified documents, and the system says they can't be found on these mainframes." Lu Yuan hadn't actually had time to look at the documents on the tablet; he was just telling him this through the system's connection to his exoskeleton.
"I haven't had a chance to ask you what documents you've been looking at yet. Why are you here? Where are Gu Nanfeng and the others?" Ji Lang finally realized that these two weaklings were here.
"us……"
"Beep beep...beep beep..." Just as Lu Yuan was about to explain, the medical machine in the middle of the office suddenly sounded an alarm. This was not the notification sound indicating that the treatment was over, so Lu Yuan immediately went over. He was now very worried that Lin Yun would end up like Du Wenqing.
"What does this mean? Isn't the treatment over?" Yang Xiao also went over, but Ji Lang, who was confused, saw the two of them gathered around the machine and, since he couldn't help them, he didn't move closer.
"Damn it!" Through the observation window of the medical machine, Yang Xiao could clearly see Lin Yun struggling inside. His face was deathly pale, his expression was ferocious, and with the bloodstains on his face, he had gone from looking pitiful to looking terrifying.
"Is this... turning into a zombie?" Lu Yuan muttered to himself.
Upon hearing this, Yang Xiao knew that he was most likely talking to the system. Ji Lang, however, didn't understand and thought Lu Yuan was asking him a question, so he leaned over and said, "He's been injured for several hours now..."
"Is there really no hope?" Yang Xiao's eyes suddenly reddened. They had come from G City together; Qin Yuan was gone first, and now Lin Yun was gone too...
"No, no." Lu Yuan's eyes were also red, and he held back his tears, staring blankly ahead. He kept searching in the space, trying all kinds of keywords, hoping to find a special medicine that could save Lin Yun.
“Team Leader Lin is such a good person, Lu Xiaoyuan, we can’t let him sacrifice himself too.” Yang Xiao wiped away his tears and squatted down next to Lu Yuan to help him think of keywords, “Is there any kind of antidote or serum? In the movies, they always use serum at the end, and they get better after taking the serum.”
Hearing this, Lu Yuan also began searching for antidotes and serums in his spatial storage, but the serum search yielded no results after several attempts. However, he found a huge pile of various antidotes. Lu Yuan stopped choosing and took them all out of his storage space.
"So much?" Yang Xiao was also shocked by the enormous amount of antidote. "No serum? Ah, and a vaccine too!"
"If humanity chose the space program in the past, it means that the zombie virus has not been completely conquered. There is definitely no vaccine, and there is none in the serum space. It's hard to say whether these antidotes will be useful now." After Lu Yuan finished speaking, he casually took a bottle of antidotes and prepared to pour it into the medical machine.
“This won’t do, this is for snake venom.” Ji Lang grabbed Lu Yuan’s hand and gathered all the antidote on the ground in front of him. “Although it’s worth a shot, let’s try the right medicine first.”
“These have foreign language labels, and I can’t understand them.” Yang Xiao picked through the antidotes for a while, putting aside the ones with foreign language labels, and then the group started looking at the antidotes with Chinese labels one by one.
"Is this one okay, for viral infection?" Lu Yuan placed a bottle in front of everyone. He had looked at several antidotes for various poisons before, but this one was for viral infection, though he couldn't identify what kind of virus it was.
"These are all antidotes for poisonous plants," Yang Xiao said, noting that several bottles of antidotes he had looked at were placed in front of him, none of which seemed suitable.
"This is an antidote for the mutated virus." Ji Lang handed over the small bottle in his hand as well. Compared with Lu Yuan's, both had the same virus number written on them, but Ji Lang's was an antidote for the mutated version of this virus.
"Then let's try this one first." After Lu Yuan finished speaking, he took the small bottle from Ji Lang and put it into the special drug dispensing port of the medical machine.
After the antidote was placed into the medical machine, a layer of mist was sprayed out of the machine's cabin, presumably the atomized antidote. Afterwards, Lu Yuan and Yang Xiao clearly felt that Lin Yun's struggles lessened, and his facial expression became less ferocious.
"There's hope!" Yang Xiao excitedly grabbed Ji Lang's arm and laughed happily.
This left Ji Lang, who was usually the target of much disdain, somewhat bewildered. He had never seen Yang Xiao smile like that before, especially not from such close proximity.
"If Team Leader Lin hasn't mutated, does that mean we might have antibodies?" Lu Yuan looked at Lin Yun, who was gradually calming down inside the medical machine. The machine's alarm had stopped, and the treatment countdown had started ticking normally again.
"Antibodies, are they used for vaccine research?" Yang Xiao asked.
“Yes, if Captain Lin is alright, we might have antibodies.” Ji Lang patted Yang Xiao’s arm, which was still linked with his, and laughed. “By then, our country should be able to develop a vaccine.”
"Wait, who told you to hold my arm!" Yang Xiao quickly pulled his hand out of Ji Lang's arm, then walked away from Ji Lang with a look of disgust, and went to the other side of the medical machine to observe Lin Yun inside.
Seeing Yang Xiao suddenly pull away, Ji Lang was bewildered again. He was completely confused about Yang Xiao's thoughts once more. Every time he felt they were getting closer, Yang Xiao would pull away again. Sometimes he really wanted to grab Yang Xiao and ask him what he was thinking, but this wasn't the right time to talk about romance, so every time he wanted to speak, he held back.
