Chapter 399: Temple Terror
Chapter 399: Temple Terror
After leaving the dangerous collapsed area, Li Yunfei and his companions continued on their unknown journey. They walked along a winding mountain road, surrounded by rolling hills and lush trees that stood quietly like guardians of the earth.
Li Yunfei walked at the front of the team, his steps were firm and powerful, his eyes revealed his expectations and vigilance for the future. The breeze gently brushed across his face, ruffling his slightly messy hair. Although his armor was covered with traces of battle, it still exuded an unyielding momentum.
Zhang Hao followed behind him, using the spear in his hand as a crutch to support his exhausted body. His eyes wandered, as if he was still recalling the thrilling escape just now.
Feng Yu seemed a little silent. She lowered her head to look at the road under her feet, occasionally raising her hand to wipe away the sweat on her forehead. Her originally bright eyes now had a little more worry. She seemed a little fragile now that she had lost her magic power.
Mo Ying was still walking alone on one side of the team. His short blade had been sheathed, but his hand never left the hilt, as if he was ready to deal with any possible danger at any time.
Lin Yue panted with every step, and the staff in her hand seemed particularly heavy. But she gritted her teeth and tried to keep up with everyone else.
"Everyone, try harder. There might be a place to rest ahead." Li Yunfei encouraged everyone.
They walked through a dense forest, the sun shone through the gaps in the leaves, forming golden beams of light. Birds sang happily on the branches, as if cheering them on. But Li Yunfei and others had no intention of appreciating the beautiful scenery, their minds were on the road ahead.
Suddenly, a wide river appeared in front of us, with the water rushing and making a loud noise.
"This river doesn't look easy to cross." Zhang Hao frowned.
Li Yunfei observed the river's condition and said, "Let's see if there is a shallow beach to cross."
The crowd searched along the river bank and finally found a shallow beach with relatively slow water flow.
"Everyone be careful, the river water may be very fast." Li Yunfei was the first to step into the river.
The river water was so cold that it instantly made their legs lose feeling. Li Yunfei walked forward with difficulty, fighting against the impact of the water with every step.
Zhang Hao followed closely behind, his body swaying and almost being washed away by the current. "Be careful!" Feng Yu exclaimed.
Mo Ying quickly reached out and grabbed Zhang Hao, "Hold on!"
With the help of everyone, Lin Yue also crossed the river carefully.
After getting ashore, their clothes were soaked, and the wind made it even more freezing cold.
"First, find a place to make a fire and dry the clothes." Li Yunfei said.
They found a cave nearby. It was dark and damp, but it could at least shelter them from the wind and rain.
Feng Yu used the little magic power he had left to make a fire, and everyone sat around the fire and dried their clothes.
"Where should we go next?" Lin Yue asked.
Li Yunfei pondered for a moment, "According to the previous clues, we should head north."
"The North? That's an unknown area." Zhang Hao said.
"But maybe the answers we are looking for are there," Li Yunfei said firmly.
After a short rest, they set off again.
Not long after we walked, the sky suddenly became gloomy and covered with dark clouds, and it seemed that a rainstorm was about to come.
"Hurry up and find a place to hide from the rain!" Li Yunfei shouted.
After searching everywhere, they finally found a dilapidated temple in a forest.
They rushed into the temple, and as soon as they entered, heavy rain poured down.
The temple was filled with an old atmosphere, and the murals on the walls were already blurred.
"This place looks a bit eerie." Feng Yu said.
At this moment, a sinister laugh sounded in the temple.
The eerie laughter echoed in the temple, as if it came from the abyss of the underworld, making people shudder. Li Yunfei and the others instantly became alert, standing back to back in a circle, their eyes nervously scanning the surroundings.
The light inside the temple grew dimmer, and raindrops as big as beans hit the doors and windows fiercely, making crackling sounds. The wind poured in through the broken windows, causing the flames to flicker and shadows to dance wildly on the walls.
Li Yunfei held the artifact tightly, beads of sweat oozing from his forehead, "Who is it? Come out quickly!" His voice echoed in the empty temple, but it only brought an even more weird laughter.
Zhang Hao's eyes widened, and the spear in his hand trembled slightly, "Don't play tricks, if you have the guts come out and fight me for three hundred rounds!" He tried to cover up his inner fear with roar.
Feng Yu's heartbeat quickened rapidly, and she rubbed the corners of her clothes unconsciously with her hands. The originally weak power of fire was now difficult to condense because of fear.
Mo Ying stood like a sculpture, his short blade quietly unsheathed. His eyes were cold and sharp, not missing any slightest movement.
Lin Yue leaned closely behind the crowd, holding her staff tightly, her knuckles turning white from the force.
Suddenly, a black shadow swooped down from the beam and rushed towards Li Yunfei. Li Yunfei reacted quickly, dodged to the side, and swung the magic weapon. A ray of light flashed across, and the black shadow screamed and disappeared into the darkness.
"Be careful, there's more than one!" Mo Ying whispered.
Everyone's nerves were tense and their breathing became rapid.
At this time, distorted faces slowly emerged on the surrounding walls, and they uttered painful groans and shrill screams. Feng Yu couldn't help but cover his ears, "What on earth is this?"
Li Yunfei gritted his teeth and said, "No matter what it is, we can't back down!"
After saying this, he waved the artifact, and wherever the light went, faces disappeared. But soon, more faces emerged, and the whole temple seemed to have turned into a terrifying purgatory.
Zhang Hao waved his spear and stabbed at those faces, but it was like stabbing into the air, with no effect.
"This won't work, we must find their source!" Lin Yue shouted.
Everyone began to look for clues in the temple, and a dilapidated statue in the corner caught Li Yunfei's attention. The statue's face was blurred, but from its posture, it could be seen that there was an evil aura.
"Maybe this is the key." Li Yunfei said, walking towards the statue.
As he approached the statue, a powerful force pushed him back.
"Everyone together!" Li Yunfei shouted.
Everyone exerted their strength; light, flames, spears, and magic were all concentrated on the statue.
The statue began to tremble and let out a sharper cry.
"Try harder!" Li Yunfei roared.
Finally, with the joint efforts of everyone, the statue was shattered.
In an instant, all the faces and laughter disappeared, and the temple returned to peace.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and slumped on the ground.
"What kind of evil magic is this?" Zhang Hao asked, gasping for breath.
Li Yunfei looked at the broken statue and said, "Maybe it's some kind of dark curse. No matter what, we have to get out of here quickly."
The rain gradually stopped, and they walked out of the temple and continued on their way. But after this shocking experience, everyone felt heavier and more alert...
