[Mo Dao Zu Shi Fanfiction] I Raise A Ying in Yiling

Chapter 106 Heading to 1

Chapter 106 Heading to 1

Nothing was said that night, and the exhausted group slept soundly. Around 3:45 AM, as darkness fell and the cold moon gradually disappeared, the village's spirited roosters opened their eyes and, despite the lack of dawn, eagerly crowed their loud horns, waking the world from its sweet dreams.

As the rooster crowed incessantly, Wei Chaoyan groggily sat up from the warm, plush blankets surrounding her. She subconsciously rubbed her sleepy eyes and looked around. The faint moonlight outside was blocked by the thick curtains, and no light could penetrate the carriage. Therefore, Wei Chaoyan could not see anything in the dark.

With her eyes open, Wei Chaoyan groped around inside the dark carriage and found a large bulge not far from her. Perhaps her movements startled him, for the person under the blanket rolled over and mumbled a few words.

The voice was rather muffled, and even though the carriage was extremely quiet, Wei Chaoyan couldn't make out what it said. However, the familiar voice told her that it was Qi Ye. She groped around a bit further to her side and found a small head about half an arm's length away. Judging by the shape, it was Xiao Qingyan's head! She stretched out her foot slightly and seemed to kick something. Uh… could little Wei Ying be sleeping right next to her feet? Wei Chaoyan thought with a dark expression.

Hmm, it seems all three of her younger brothers are here. Listening to the crowing of roosters outside the carriage, she knew it was almost the end of the 5-7 PM hour. Wei Chaoyan carefully avoided her brothers and climbed to the carriage door in the darkness. She gently lifted a small corner of the curtain that was hanging down, just enough for her to pass through. Using the dim light of the fire not far away, she rolled down from the small corner and, after standing firmly, quickly lowered the corner of the curtain to prevent the heavy twilight outside from seeping into the carriage and chilling the three sleeping people inside.

"Hiss, it's so cold!" Only after lowering the carriage curtain did Wei Chaoyan have the mind to complain about the chill of the winter night. Wei Chaoyan shrank her neck and pulled her high collar tighter, still glad that she had the foresight to remember to put on a thick cloak before getting out of the carriage, otherwise the cold wind outside would have made her shiver several times!

Wei Chaoyan hunched her shoulders as she walked toward the fire not far away, where three people were keeping watch. One of them was Yan Qing, whom Wei Chaoyan knew well and was always reliable!

Wei Chaoyan walked shakily to Yan Qing, who was sitting upright like a statue, his left hand gripping a sword. He squatted down and breathed hot air into Yan Qing's eyes as he asked, "Uncle Yan Qing, good morning! Where's Aunt Yan?"

Yan Qing blinked and slowly said, "The mistress of the house hasn't gotten up yet."

“Uh, never mind then, I won’t bother her! Uncle Yan Qing,” Wei Chaoyan rubbed her cold hands and asked expectantly, “Is there any hot water? I want to wash up.”

Yan Qing pointed to the earthenware pot covered by the fire, indicating that the hot water was inside and that people should help themselves.

Wei Chaoyan hurriedly took out the copper basin they had used yesterday from the back of the carriage, covered it with a towel, and poured hot water from the earthenware pot into the copper basin. Seeing that about a third of the hot water had been poured into the copper basin, Wei Chaoyan stopped pouring water, put the earthenware pot back in its original position, closed the lid, and carried her copper basin to the other side of the carriage to start washing up.

When Wei Chaoyan finished washing up and tidied up her toiletries, Lady Yan got off the carriage behind Wei Chaoyan, yawning.

Just as Lady Yan was about to step towards the fire, her eyes caught sight of Wei Chaoyan squatting not far away, staring at her. Her lips and eyes twitched wildly, and Lady Yan said irritably, "Hey, Wei Chaoyan, what are you doing squatting in that corner so early in the morning? Are you trying to scare me?!"

"Hey, hey, that's not true! Aunt Yan, don't talk nonsense! I was just washing up here, I'm not so bored as to stand guard here to scare you! Besides, I don't even know which carriage you slept in last night, how could I stand guard at a fixed time for you!" Wei Chaoyan waved her hands repeatedly and shouted that she was wronged.

Lady Yan rubbed her ears, which were a little uncomfortable from Wei Chaoyan's loud voice, and said, "Alright, alright, little ancestor, I know I misspoke. Can you please keep your voice down? Be careful not to wake up your precious little brothers!"

Wei Chaoyan choked and shut her mouth, no longer making a sound. She just stared at Yan Niangzi as she slowly walked to the fire and sat on a small stool that a clever subordinate had brought over since Yan Niangzi appeared. She slowly began to clean herself with the hot water and toiletries prepared by her thoughtful subordinate.

After fussing for a long time, and seeing that the darkness in the sky had lessened considerably, Lady Yan finally tidied herself up. She then slowly instructed her servants, who were gradually waking up, to prepare breakfast before extending her smooth, white jade-like right hand to beckon Wei Chaoyan to her side.

As soon as Madam Yan beckoned, Wei Chaoyan rushed to her side eagerly and asked impatiently, "Aunt Yan, what are your plans after breakfast?"

"Hmm... let's go back to Yiling to rest first before talking about other things," Lady Yan said uncertainly, tilting her head as she thought for a moment.

"No, Aunt Yan, didn't we agree that I would take your people to see the cenotaph after we finished dealing with that? Why do we have to go back to town? Isn't this just a waste of time?!" Wei Chaoyan argued.
