Chapter 195 Warm Home
Chapter 195 Warm Home
After several days of intense fighting, Ling Xiaotian finally had time to take a break. That morning, he had unusually put aside all his duties, intending to enjoy a few relaxing family moments with Cheng Yuwei.
A little accident in the kitchen
Ling Xiaotian woke up early and found that Cheng Yuwei was not in the room. He stood up, put on his coat, and walked along the corridor to look for her. In the distance, he could smell the aroma of cooking coming from the kitchen. He pushed open the door and saw Cheng Yuwei busy and sweating.
"Madam, do you want to show me your skills today?" He leaned against the door frame and teased with a smile.
Cheng Yuwei was startled. She turned around and saw it was him. She frowned and said, "How come you walked without making any sound? You almost scared the spatula out of my hand."
Ling Xiaotian shrugged, walked over slowly, picked up a sliced radish and stuffed it into his mouth: "Not bad, it tastes good. What are you doing?"
"Braised pork, lotus root with osmanthus, steamed fish... plus a few side dishes. Didn't you say last night that you wanted to have a home-cooked meal? It's a good opportunity for me to try it too." Cheng Yuwei said, lowering her head to stir the ingredients in the pot.
Ling Xiaotian raised his eyebrows: "You don't usually go to the kitchen very often, but you seem to be diligent today."
"Don't just talk nonsense!" Cheng Yuwei glared at him, "How about you come and help?"
Ling Xiaotian laughed heartily and rolled up his sleeves: "Okay, then I'll show you my cooking skills and help you check if this braised pork is overcooked."
Cheng Yuwei originally thought he was just joking, but she didn't expect Ling Xiaotian to actually skillfully pick up the spoon and stir-fry the braised pork in a few strokes until it was fragrant.
"You... can cook?" Cheng Yuwei was a little surprised.
"Of course, when we're at war, we can't always rely on the cook for every meal. We have to cook sometimes," Ling Xiaotian said proudly. "From now on, just tell me what you want to eat."
Cheng Yuwei couldn't help laughing: "That's great, I'll count on you from now on."
Relaxing time in the courtyard
After a hot breakfast, the two moved to the courtyard. Cheng Yuwei was busy tending to the newly planted flowers, while Ling Xiaotian moved a bamboo chair and sat leisurely reading a book.
The sunlight filtered through the leaves, illuminating her face and making her smile even brighter. Ling Xiaotian put down his book and quietly watched her busy figure. He couldn't help but say, "Yuwei, I always feel that with you around, this yard feels like home."
Cheng Yuwei raised her head and smiled softly, "You really mean what you said. It's a pity that we won't be able to live like this for much longer."
Ling Xiaotian frowned, walked over and pulled her to sit on the bamboo chair: "Why are you starting to have these random thoughts again? Isn't everything fine right now?"
"The battlefield is unpredictable. I know your character. You are destined not to stay in this small world." Cheng Yuwei said softly, "I just hope that no matter how the future changes, we can remember these peaceful days."
Ling Xiaotian held her hand and said solemnly, "Yuwei, no matter what happens, I will protect you. Even if one day, this mountain and river asks me to let go, I will never let you get hurt."
Cheng Yuwei nodded and looked up at the blue sky: "I hope everything will be as you said."
Premonition of crisis
Just as they were enjoying a rare moment of peace, an urgent letter arrived from the front lines. Ling Xiaotian unfolded the letter and his brows knitted together.
"What's wrong?" Cheng Yuwei noticed that his expression was wrong and asked quickly.
"The Zhao army is regrouping and appears to be preparing for a large-scale counterattack." Ling Xiaotian handed her the letter. "Also, they seem to have found new allies."
Cheng Yuwei quickly scanned the contents of the letter, her expression darkening. "Could this ally... be a foreign power? If so, it's a serious problem."
Ling Xiaotian nodded: "That's exactly what I'm worried about. If we don't allow them to obtain sufficient supplies, our situation will become even more difficult."
"Then how do you plan to deal with it?" Cheng Yuwei asked.
"We must quickly identify the source of this force and strengthen our defenses on the front lines." Ling Xiaotian stood up, a sharp glint in his eyes. "This battle cannot afford to be sloppy."
Cheng Yuwei also stood up and said in a deep voice, "I will also do my best to help you, especially regarding the channels for medicinal materials and supplies. I will fully cooperate."
Ling Xiaotian looked at her with a hint of tenderness in his eyes: "Yuwei, it is my blessing to have you here.
