Chapter 264 Entering the Sea of Souls
Chapter 264 Entering the Sea of Souls
Vidfulnil struggled desperately, trying to use the same trick to separate his body, but he found that he couldn't do it at all. His divine power core was controlled by Agreed, and now he could not use any skills because his divine power was sealed. Then Agreed bit down on Vidfulnil's head and swallowed the once invincible eagle in just a few bites.
Agred analyzed the newly entered divine power, saying, "Ah, so you've ingested too much evil god power and haven't finished digesting it yet. You're too greedy, little guy. How can you digest so many conflicting divine powers so quickly? No wonder you look like you've been invaded by evil power. It's a pity. If you had digested the power in your body properly, it's very likely we still wouldn't have been able to defeat you this time. But thankfully, there are no 'ifs' in this world."
Agreed gave a disdainful laugh, then mobilized all his power to digest the divine power he had obtained from Vidfulnir. After all, he wouldn't allow so many mixed powers within his body; the negative example was right in front of him, and it would be incredibly foolish to make the same mistake again.
Because Agred had been absorbing the most difficult-to-digest World Tree Roots over the years, his tolerance and digestion of divine power far surpassed that of ordinary gods. Therefore, it only took Agred a few days to absorb almost all of Vidfulnir's divine power. After absorbing all this power, Agred felt extremely comfortable and roared in the void. Although the void has no air medium and cannot transmit sound, the huge energy fluctuations brought by this roar still affected a very far range.
Agreed then turned his gaze to Hell. Although there had been some minor setbacks, he couldn't forget his goal. Vydfulnir was simply not enough for Agreed at the moment, but he did provide Agreed with a good idea: the evil gods in the void were also excellent tonics!
Thinking of this, Agreed licked his lips. It seemed that after swallowing Hell, his next step would be to smash through the void. But for now, let's deal with Hell first.
Argreed once again transformed into a streak of light. After several years of sailing, Argreed finally arrived at the Sea of Souls. The Sea of Souls was not a visible place in the void; it resembled a vast, mysterious fog. However, within this poisonous fog, each particle could potentially be a world. The Sea of Souls was enormous, but because it had nurtured few god-level beings, a large portion of its area remained largely undeveloped. Even Hell only utilized a small portion of this fog. Moreover, the souls brought by demons merely caused the fog to expand continuously; unlike the World Tree, which decreased in size and increased in quality with the accumulation of faith and divine power, the Sea of Souls and the World Tree represented two extremes of high-dimensional worlds. The Sea of Souls exhibited extreme expansion in quantity, while the World Tree represented extreme compression in quality.
Agreed concealed his body within the dense fog of the Soul Sea. This fog would corrode any life that touched it, corrupting their souls and ultimately turning them into part of the Soul Sea. Agreed was well aware of the fog's dangers, yet he still entered without hesitation, for it was his only way to reach the Soul Sea. With his mastery of the soul, he could easily guide his soul safely into Hell through the fog, while his body would be hidden in the safest part of the Soul Sea's fog, since no god would dare enter there, for gods value their lives above all else.
Arged's soul surged into the Sea of Souls along with the thick fog. After enduring a long period of darkness and stinging pain, Arged's soul finally discovered the light at the entrance to the Sea of Souls and swam towards it.
……
Within the microscopic sea of souls lies a vast expanse of crimson and blood. Every day, countless soul worms are born from this ocean. These worms devour and fight each other, evolving and growing, slowly transforming into all sorts of bizarre creatures. Here, you can see all species from the material world. Because souls have form, the sea of souls acts like a giant storage container, holding information about all species from ancient times. The souls that demons have plundered from the material world over the years have also allowed it to evolve with the times. Therefore, the first evolution of those soul worms is to become a recorded species, such as 'goblin', 'human', 'elf', or even 'dragon'!
In short, low-level demons do not actually have a specific appearance, because demons are not a species, but a life form. As for why high-level demons look so similar, it is because the only way for a demon to advance is to devour its own kind. This is also why demons are so evil, because the environment in which they exist is extremely chaotic and evil.
After a low-level demon devours countless of its own kind, it will naturally combine the superior traits from its soul and eventually evolve into a perfect humanoid creature. So, whether you admit it or not, the demon race possesses the most perfect genetic template for humanoid creatures and is the 'perfect life form' in human form—this is an established fact.
Unfortunately, demons cannot leave the Sea of Souls and descend into the material world in their physical form, because once they leave the Sea of Souls, they are merely souls with form but no substance. This is why they are rejected and expelled by the River Styx in the multiverse. The term "wandering ghost" can be used to describe demons. The River Styx is similar in function to the underworld and also has its own ghost messengers, the necromancers.
But many years ago, the hypocritical gods defined their ghost messengers, the necromancers, as evil and instigated their followers to kill the dead so that the gods could show off their power and gain divine power. As a result, the dead were massacred by the gods and eventually disappeared from the world. After that, the Styx lost its subordinates and its ability to control the demons.
After losing the protection of the River Styx, the demons of the multiverse entered their own 'buffet era' and have plagued the multiverse for many years since then. This is the fundamental reason why demons roam the multiverse.
It wasn't until many years later, when Tutankhamun reopened the path of the dead and killed most of the demons, even banishing the Seven Deadly Sins back to the multiverse of the Soul Sea, that the demons finally calmed down. Unfortunately, the ignorant gods had already equated the dead with evil gods, defining them as evil beings that destroyed the universe. So the gods personally destroyed the last barrier of the universe, opening the gate and allowing the demons to return to the multiverse once again.
It's ironic that, simply because they couldn't comprehend the existence of the undead, ignorant beings, even gods, personally killed their guardians, allowing demons to enter this world. Argreed calculated that the disappearance of necromancers allowed demons to plunder the total souls of at least five hundred universes. While the souls of the undead return to the River Styx after killing, demons have genuinely plundered a portion of the universe's power. Therefore... in fact, many universes were destroyed and turned into the void as a result. And the true creators of this disaster were precisely those 'great, glorious, and righteous' gods!
