Chapter 305: The Ambush
Chapter 305: The Ambush
As the punches came flying, Yohan dodged every single one before throwing one of his own.His fist stopped mere inches from Gunjoo’s face. Then he shifted his stance and drove a punch straight into his gut.
The impact tore through Gunjoo’s body, dropping him to his knees with a groan.
"Don’t be a baby," Yohan said, "I barely put any strength into that one."
Gunjoo wheezed.
"Then why does it hurt so much?"
A few seconds later, he forced himself back to his feet.
"I still don’t get why you picked an item that makes you flexible. Aside from making your punches faster, it doesn’t seem all that useful."
"Actually, I didn’t choose it just for attacking," Gunjoo said. "The defense matters too. Blunt force doesn’t hurt as much, and—"
"You don’t have to explain it to me," Yohan cut in. "Do whatever you want with your money. Just don’t blame me when you realize that you got scammed,"
A guilty look crossed Gunjoo’s face, ass he considered it, "Do you think the baker would accept a refund?"
"Or maybe this was his intention all along, to make you unhappy with your first purchase so you’ll come back again and buy something more expensive" Yohan sighed and shook his head.
The Bakers marketing tactics were always so dirty and because he had no competition, he could do however he pleased.
’At least I don’t have to deal with him’ he thought, pushing it aside.
"About that other thing I told you..."
Gunjoo finished his sentence, "You want to storm Hatoru’s mansion?"
"Yeah. So can I count on your help?"
Gunjoo’s expression turned serious.
"You do realize people are going to die if we do this."
"Yes."
"Are you actually prepared to take lives for revenge?"
"It’s not that big of a deal," Yohan said. "They’re killers too."
Gunjoo studied him for a moment, then nodded.
"Alright. I’ll tell my guys. I’ll also have to inform Mason. He’ll be dealing with the aftermath."
"What aftermath?"
"If we successfully take out Hatoru, there’ll be consequences. We’d be tearing down an order that’s been in place for over a decade. A vacuum like that creates chaos if nobody handles it."
He paused, then smirked.
"Don’t worry. I’ll make sure my boss knows how much you contributed."
"I couldn’t care less," Yohan muttered. "Just make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid."
"Of course, boss," Gunjoo replied with a sarcastic grin.
"So when are we doing this?"
"Tonight," Yohan answered without the slightest hesitation.
...
That night, Jenna was sitting in the massive living room when her phone rang.
Izumi, seated beside her, caught a glimpse of the screen.
"Is it Yohan?" she asked.
Jenna didn’t answer. She ended the call and slipped the phone back into her pocket.
"You know," Izumi said casually, "I don’t think you ever told me how you two met. Or when you started seeing each other."
"Seeing each other?" Jenna repeated, her face warming. "I have no idea what you mean."
"Don’t pretend. I can tell something’s going on between you two. You even insisted he stay with us at the hotel because you were worried about him."
"No, I just kept him around for your protection," Jenna tried to defend herself, but the crack in her voice only made it worse.
"Izumi, drop it or your grandfather might hear."
"Okay," Izumi said, leaning closer like a schoolgirl gossiping over a crush. "Then tell me how long you’ve known him."
Jenna hesitated.
She already knew Izumi wouldn’t stop without an answer.
"More than two weeks," she finally admitted.
"Two weeks?" Izumi folded her arms with a frown. "And you kept it secret the whole time? I thought we were best friends."
That was how Izumi always referred to her. Jenna had been one of the only constants in her life growing up, and with how close their ages were, it had always been easy for Jenna to play the part.
She exhaled.
"I didn’t want to put you in danger."
"Or you wanted to keep him all to yourself?" Izumi teased, raising a brow. "You two already did it, didn’t you?"
Jenna’s face turned even redder.
Usually Izumi was the one shamelessly talking about her own experiences.
Now that the attention had shifted, Jenna suddenly couldn’t find her voice.
And her silence was answer enough.
Izumi’s eyes lit up.
"How was it? Great, right?"
"I never said that."
"Come on, it’s just us. I’ll tell you a secret too."
"I don’t want to know," Jenna muttered, already dreading where this was going.
"We did it too," Izumi admitted lightly. "And honestly... it was way better than anything I ever had with Freddie."
"Seriously?" Jenna asked before she could stop herself.
Izumi grinned.
"Yes. You felt it too, right? It’s like he has magic hands. Every time we’re together—"
"You’ve been together more than once?" Jenna cut in.
"Oops..." Izumi covered her mouth. "That slipped out."
Jenna looked away.
"No, it’s fine. It’s not like he was ever mine to begin with. It was just... a moment between two adults."
But the shift in her expression betrayed her.
She wasn’t taking it nearly as well as she sounded.
Izumi noticed immediately and softened.
"Jenna... don’t tell me you actually have feelings for him?"
...
Back at the gym, more of Gunjoo’s men had gathered.
Every one of them armed and ready.
"Your guy still isn’t answering?" Gunjoo asked.
"Yeah." Yohan slipped his phone back into his pocket. "But it’s fine. We can still move as long as we know he’s inside."
"My guys watching said no one except visitors has driven into the compound tonight. We only need to worry about reaching him before the cops arrive."
"That’ll be my job," Yohan said, his expression hardening. "I’ll make sure he doesn’t even get time to react. Then I’ll force him to confess before I get rid of him."
He looked up.
Gunjoo was staring at him strangely.
"What?"
"It’s nothing..." Gunjoo said. "But are you sure you can handle that? I don’t think killing someone would do a good kid like you any favors. If the chance comes, I can handle it for you."
"No."
Yohan’s answer came immediately.
"I want Hatoru for myself." His gaze sharpened.
"I want him to spend his last moments wondering why it had to be me."
