Chapter 168: Enough is enough
Chapter 168: Enough is enough
According to an unwritten rule in high school, first-year students are on the same floor, and each student moves up one floor to the next. Teachers prepare lessons in offices in the middle of the building, with classrooms on either side. There is no dedicated teaching building.
So Zhang Jianjun moved to the top floor in September.
In other words, students nowadays don't have that much pressure, or rather, they have a high tolerance for pressure. Otherwise, that old principal wouldn't have so easily placed the senior students on the top floor.
Ten years from now, more and more high school seniors will be going to experiment to see if that building is really that tall!
Only a very small number of people can be like Charlotte, who only lost a leg!
Just a few days into the new semester, Zhang Jianjun was called to the principal's office. "Jianjun! The school is holding a math competition, and the school has decided that you will participate!"
"Math competition? Can I skip it?" Zhang Jianjun really didn't want to participate; it was a waste of time and didn't offer much benefit.
The old principal pretended to be angry, "No! You child! Everyone else is scrambling to go, but you're making excuses! Hurry up and get ready. You'll be going to Fengling Middle School next Monday for the first round of exams."
Zhang Jianjun hadn't expected that the former principal knew Chen Lixin, which led to the current situation where he felt awkward refusing the former principal, otherwise it would make things awkward for all three parties.
Fortunately, Zhang Jianjun has vowed not to work so hard to win the top score, so he has a lot more time!
As for points, enough is enough! Any more than that is a waste!
Although Fengling Middle School is in another district, it is actually not far away.
Zhang Jianjun, carrying a military green crossbody bag, walked into the middle school. He was very inconspicuous; everyone around him was dressed like that.
Zhang Jianjun never expected to run into Chang Xingyu at this school. To be precise, it was Chang Xingyu who recognized Zhang Jianjun.
"Zhang Jianjun! What are you doing here?" Chang Xingyu patted Zhang Jianjun on the shoulder from behind.
"I'm here to take the exam!" Zhang Jianjun pulled out his admission ticket. "Perfect timing, could you give me directions?"
Chang Xingyu picked up the admission ticket and looked at it. "You only wrote the exam room number, I really didn't pay attention to which one was which! Let me take you to find it, there are only four exam rooms in total!"
After he finished speaking, Chang Xingyu led the way, occasionally turning back to urge Zhang Jianjun to hurry up.
Zhang Jianjun didn't deliberately slow down; he simply noticed Chang Xingyu's problem!
When Chang Xingyu was holding his exam admission ticket, Zhang Jianjun noticed something was off about Chang Xingyu's complexion; to put it simply, he looked pale. After examining Chang Xingyu's physical characteristics more closely, he was pretty sure that Chang Xingyu was sick!
Chang Xingyu must have been seriously injured when he fell into the water last time. Zhang Jianjun has been seeing doctors with Ding Tongguang since he was a few years old, so he has developed a professional habit of trying to analyze the health of anyone he meets.
Chang Xingyu has indeed been feeling unwell these past two days; his period started and is causing him a lot of pain. He didn't have this before, but it started after winter.
I went to the clinic, and it wasn't hurting that much then. The doctor said that menstrual cramps are normal for women, and hers was mild, so she should just bear with it!
Before entering the examination room, Zhang Jianjun stopped, turned around and called out to Chang Xingyu, "Stretch out your hand and put it on the windowsill."
Chang Xingyu was a little curious, but he did as he was told. "Why put it here?"
"Let me take your pulse!" Zhang Jianjun said, placing three fingers on Chang Xingyu's wrist.
Chang Xingyu didn't believe Zhang Jianjun could take a pulse at all, and jokingly teased him, "You're really funny! I'd like to see what kind of pulse you can take!"
"I can tell you've been having lower abdominal pain lately. And it's only been in the last two months that the pain has suddenly become very severe; it wasn't as bad before, was it?" Zhang Jianjun concluded.
Chang Xingyu was shocked, his eyes widening again. "You really know how to take a pulse? You didn't just hear that from someone else and are trying to fool me, did you?"
Zhang Jianjun immediately took action and massaged the meridians on Chang Xingyu's hands. "My master practices medicine at Xuanwu Lake Hospital, and I often study medicine there. If you feel unwell in the future, go there to see me."
Chang Xingyu even forgot to pull his hand back! Because, as Zhang Jianjun kept pressing, the pain really stopped! It felt like being surrounded by a thermos of hot water, making his whole body feel warm and cozy!
Suddenly, a stern voice rang out from behind, "What are you doing! Let me go!"
"Third Uncle!" Chang Xingyu turned around, saw the person who came, and quickly stood at attention.
"Did he bully you?" Chang Xingyu's third uncle stared at Zhang Jianjun with hostility.
Chang Xingyu quickly explained, "Third Uncle, he didn't bully me! He's Zhang Jianjun, do you remember him? He rescued me from the water before the New Year!"
Chang Xingyu's third uncle suddenly realized, "Oh, so it was him. But, just now you..."
“He’s treating my illness…” Although Chang Xingyu sensed Zhang Jianjun’s extraordinary medical skills, it felt very incongruous to say it out loud!
Chang Xingyu's third uncle looked around between the two of them a few times, and finally asked Zhang Jianjun, "Which class are you in?"
Zhang Jianjun answered proactively, "I'm not from this school; I'm here to take the exam today."
Chang Xingyu's third uncle glanced at his watch. "Oh, it's almost time. Let's go in quickly!"
Zhang Jianjun nodded and then entered the examination room. Chang Xingyu's third uncle also came in; he was the proctor!
Zhang Jianjun finished the test very quickly, using only half the time. He wanted to hand in his paper without checking it, but was told he wasn't allowed to! In those days, anti-cheating rules were not perfect, and to save trouble, students were generally not allowed to leave the exam room early.
Helpless, Zhang Jianjun could only sit obediently in the examination room, staring at Chang Xingyu's third uncle.
…………
Qiao Sanli came to find Zhang Jianjun, "Brother Jun, the sister who fell into the water last winter is here again! I saw her outside the door."
Zhang Jianjun could see the wariness in Qiao Sanli's eyes.
Someone is trying to steal her military husband!
Qiao Sanli said "again" because during the Spring Festival, Chang Xingyu invited Zhang Jianjun to his home for dinner to thank him for saving someone from the water, but Zhang Jianjun declined. Zhang Jianjun felt it was a small matter and there was no need to make such a big deal out of it.
After the exam, Zhang Jianjun prescribed Chinese medicine for Chang Xingyu. After taking it, Chang Xingyu came to Zhang Jianjun for a follow-up examination, and that's when he met Qiao Sanli again.
Before Qiao Sanli could finish speaking to Zhang Jianjun, Zhang Jianjun heard Chang Xingyu's voice from outside, "Zhang Jianjun! Zhang Jianjun!"
"Zhang Jianjun, why are you taking so long to come out!" Chang Xingyu had just seen Zhang Jianjun when he quickly came up to him, and then he saw Qiao Sanli, "Little sister is here too?"
"Sister Chang!" Although Qiao Sanli was wary of Chang Xingyu, she did not lose her manners.
It's a coincidence that my older brother and sister-in-law both went out today, and Wu Fenglan also went to work overtime, leaving only Zhang Jianjun at home.
Seeing Chang Xingyu walking quickly towards him, Zhang Jianjun stopped a distance away. "Chang Xingyu, you wanted to see me? What's up?"
"My dad knows you helped me again, and he insists I invite you over for dinner! He wants you to thank him in person!" Chang Xingyu immediately grabbed Zhang Jianjun's arm. "Come with me! He even made me sign a pledge!"
“It’s nothing serious, just a small favor, no need for that! Just tell him when you get back that you appreciate his kindness, and that you don’t need to eat.” Zhang Jianjun still declined.
